R.I.P. Jonathan Frid

One of my favorite things as a child was to rush home after school to catch DARK SHADOWS starring Jonathan Frid as the anti-hero vampire Barnabas Collins. I bought the soundtrack album, the picture bio of Jonathan Frid seen below, the mags. I bought it all. The monster soap often gets remembered for its low budget, no retakes bloopers but those, no matter how numerous, really were the exception when you consider this was a daily show that ran for several years. Jonathan Frid's masterful, stage-trained acting made Barnabas more than just the token Dracula clone he had originally been planned to be and created an unlikely hero and an unlikely phenomenon of its time.
At last, the eternal sleep so long denied Barnabas Collins.
